  The department offers two research programmes, which lead to award of Ph.D., M. Tech    ( Research) and a course programme that leads to award of M.Tech. degree.

  ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSIONS TO Ph.D./M Tech (Research)
M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc. (Engg.) degree holders Candidates with B.E./B.Tech.or equivalent degree in Instrumentation or Electrical and Electronics Engineering or M Sc or equivalent degree in Physics / Engineering Physics / Applied Physics, Materials Science, Electronics will be considered for Ph.D. programme only.
Slection of shortlisted candidates for interview will be decided by the selection committee.
M.Sc. (non-Engg.) degree in Applied Physics/ Material Science/
Electronics holders
Candidates who have qualified any one of the national tests, such as JEST, Joint CSIR-UGC-NET for JRF (candidates who have qualified NET for lectureship (LS) only are NOT eligible to apply) / GATE (with valid score card within the validation peiod) will be considered for admission to Ph.D. programme and / or M. Tech ( Research) programme based on their performance in the interview.
B.E./B.Tech. degree holders Candidates with B.E./B.Tech.or equivalent degree in Instrumentation, Electrical & Electronics with valid GATE certificate within the validation period will be considered for admission to Ph.D. programme and / or M. Tech. (Research) programme based on their performance in the interview.
  ELIGIBILITY FOR ADMISSION TO M.Tech
B.E./B.Tech. or M.Sc. (non-Engg.) degree holders Candidates with B.E./B.Tech.degree in Instrumentation / Engineering Physics /Applied Physics / Electronics ( GATE paper in IN , EE, EC ) OR  M Sc or equivalent degree in Instrumentation / Physics / Emgineering Physics / Applied Physics / Electronics ( with a GATE paper in relevant dicipline ) will be considered. All the candidates should qualify GATE (with valid score card in the validation period). Final selection list will be prepared by selection committee based on GATE score and other criteria as per IISc selection procedure.
  RESEARCH AREAS
Graphene Electronics, Micro and nano systems. Sensors and related Instrumentation, Nanoscale Imaging, Super-Resolution Microscopy and Imaging, Fluorescence Microscopy Precision Motion Control, Microfluidics and Devices,Nano-metrology, Atomic Force Microscopy, Semiconductor Devices and Circuits, Bioinstrumentation, Tomographic Imaging for Biomedical and other Applications, Materials Engineering, Lasers and Spectrometry, Photovoltaics, Laser and Optical Instrumentation, Analytical Instrumentation, Electrical and Thermal Contact Resistance, Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS), Fibre-Bragg Grating Sensors. Plasma Processing and Thin Films, Solar Energy and Thermal Instrumentation, Vacuum and Thin Films, Phase Change Memories. Energy Systems, Image Processing, Semiconductor Devices and Circuits, Control Systems, Materials Engineering, Microscopy and Imaging, Analytical Instrumentation, Electronic Instrumentation, Lasers and Optical Instrumentation, Microfluidic Devices, Solar Energy and Thermal Instrumentation.
